From GERMANY- There is a movement in the UK to impose an annual 2 percent wealth tax on families with more than 10 million pounds in assets. Stephen Kinsella is a former EU antitrust lawyer and a founding member of Patriotic Millionaires UK. The report talks about the level of poverty in the UK and how a the tax would be a huge boost to social services and not actually cause a loss of assets for the wealthiest- who would never be able to spend all their money in the lifetimes anyway.

From FRANCE- Greenland issued a warning to a US oil company to not drill on its territory after they already unloaded drilling equipment onshore. The Texas based company connected to Donald Trump had purchased the rights from a UK company called 80 Mile- they had obtained the drilling license before the Greenland government stopped issuing them in 2021. In an interview with Lukas Wahden from George Washington University, Trumps motives in Greenland are also discussed. The new right-wing Colombian president Abelardo Gabriel de la Espriella was sworn in, promising a crackdown on armed cocaine producing guerrillas with the assistance of the US and Israeli militaries.

From CUBA- The new Colombian president Abelardo de la Espriella has joined the US as the only two countries recognizing Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Golan Heights, a Syrian territory. A retired Israeli General says Gaza should remain destroyed for generations, and that Israel should retain the Yellow Line which marks the military territory. China has called on the US not to slander relations between countries, and reiterated its support of Cuban self-defense.

From JAPAN- The Japanese PM spoke with the Iranian president on the Hormuz situation and the Houthi vessel attacks in Yemen. Trump wrote an executive order placing a new 15 percent tariff on polysilicon products such as solar panels. Ukraine continues to attack oil refineries in Russia with subsequent unburned carbon pouring into the atmosphere, along with human collateral deaths.

From GERMANY- The wildfires in France, Spain, and Italy have been the major topic in European news. A few notes. A hectare is about 2.5 acres and 40 degrees centigrade is 104 fahrenheit. First a brief summary of the situation in France and Spain. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez directly blamed human induced global warming for the climate emergency. Hundreds of thousands have been evacuated. An excerpts of an interview with Jan-Phillip Scholz a correspondent in Valencia Spain. Then excerpts of an interview with Stephan Pyne, an American fire historian. He discusses whether these fires are unprecedented and as climate change worsens will the fires get worse. He argues that humanity has created a new age of fire, a pyrocene era. He points out how we could mitigate the increasing danger, mainly to stop warming the planet and how we are living on the land. Much of the world that is burning now has always been in fire prone areas. He talks about the living nature of fire.

From FRANCE- Last week I covered the huge confrontation by east Indian youth who call themselves the Cockroach movement- they have called a truce after the minister of education resigned. Trump pardoned former rightwing president Juan Orlando Hernandez in December for allowing shipments of 400 tons of cocaine to the US- he returned to Honduras this week. The death toll in Venezuela from massive earthquakes a month ago has risen to 5500, with many thousands of people unaccounted for.

From CUBA- Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel thanked the Mexican people for their support of Cuba as it struggles under US blockades and sanctions. In the occupied West Bank Israeli settlers torched 2 mosques during recent attacks which included the detention of 70 and the killing of 4 Palestinians. The US House of Representatives passed a $1.5 trillion budget for the Department of War- the bill includes a permanent integration of the US and Israeli militaries defense technologies and future defense cooperation.

From FRANCE- The French Parliament voted into law a ban on the use of most social media for children under 15 years old. The negative effects of social platforms were widely debated in the country with the vast majority agreeing that young people were potentially damaged by its use. France is the first European country to impose a ban starting in September.

From JAPAN- Trump announced he will impose an additional 50% tariff on a wide range of Canadian goods imported to the US. The US has signed an agreement with Saudi Arabia on peaceful development of nuclear technology- this led to concern in Japan where there have been calls for a taboo-free nuclear debate amid increasing nuclear weapon development in France, China, and Russia.

From GERMANY- Massive youth protests emerged this week in India. A new political party, called the cockroach janta, is led by gen-Z members. Their name stems from a comment the top Indian judge made about the unemployed youth. They reacted to scandals about the education system, with 50,000 having a peaceful sit in in Delhi. Police charged into the crowd beating people with batons and sending many to the hospital. Youth from across the country have gathered in Delhi, and are expressing their concerns with aging politicians, the environment, and now police brutality. The movement is becoming international. An interview with Rumela Sen, a lecturer at Columbia University.

From CUBA- The Cuban Foreign Ministry has rejected the new US State Department campaign against the island, as well as Americans perceived to be politically left of the administration- the announcer reads the statement the Cuban Foreign Ministry published this week. The Spanish organization Open Arms sailed to Cuba bringing aid that included a solar electrical system for a pediatric hospital in Havana- power blackouts continued in the country this week, due to the US blockade of fuel. The Israeli military has continued offensive strikes in Lebanon, bringing the death toll to more than 4,300.

"People have a good reason to be afraid of tear gas, considering it's a banned agent of war under the 1993 Chemical Weapons Convention. Here's the catch - there's a clause in the treaty that includes an exception for domestic use. Yes, it's illegal for the U.S. military to use tear gas against ISIS, but cool to use against American citizens."
